Scotland’s Low Emission Zones will only allow access to vehicles which meet minimum emission standards or meet the exemption criteria.

The below vehicle checker will allow you, by providing your vehicle registration number, to check if your vehicle can or cannot drive within a LEZ based on whether it is considered compliant or non-compliant with the emission standards.

Please note that the vehicle checker will not provide an exemption status for all national or local exemptions. You will need to check whether you or your vehicle meet exemption criteria before travel.

This service cannot check vehicles that are registered outside the UK.

The vehicle registration you have entered has not been recognised. Please ensure you have entered it correctly and that the vehicle you are checking was registered in the UK.

Try entering the vehicle registration number again making sure you have not mixed up letters and numbers (for example, the letters I and O with the numbers 1 and 0).

If the vehicle details still can not be found and you believe the vehicle should be registered in the UK, you must arrange for the information that DVLA holds for this vehicle to be updated or it may be considered non-compliant and the vehicle owner may be liable to pay a penalty charge if it is driven in a Low Emission Zone.

*If you have received a penalty charge notice (PCN) for driving in a LEZ and you believe that your vehicle is LEZ compliant then the local authority that issued the PCN will conduct a review of the vehicle compliance status with the DVLA as part of the appeals process. To do this, please contact the relevant local authority using the process for appeal described in the PCN.

If you have not received a PCN and you think the result from this vehicle checker is incorrect, please email us at lowemissionzonesenquiries@gov.scot including the name and address of the registered keeper along with the vehicle make, model, colour and vehicle registration number (number plate).

If the vehicle registration number has changed in the past five years then the result from this vehicle checker may not be correct. If you believe that the result is incorrect for this reason then please email us with the registered keeper and vehicle details as described above.
