Low Emission Zones in Scotland

Low Emission Zones, which aim to protect public health by improving air quality, were introduced in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow in May 2022.

Glasgow became Scotland’s first city to introduce a LEZ after the initial stage of its scheme, which applies to local service buses, started in 2018. For remaining vehicle types, enforcement in Glasgow will begin on 1 June 2023 with an additional year for residents within the zone.

In Dundee enforcement will begin on 30 May 2024, while in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, it will begin on 1 June 2024.
